Being Jewish my family never celebrated Christmas. There was always on evening though when we would ride the kids around to Howard Beach where the lighting displays of that Italian Community were spectacular. Particular John Gotti’s house.
Last summer at my granddaughter’s sixth birthday party 28 children, boys and girls ages 5-7 were having a great time jumping around in a huge “jumpyhouse” that had been rented and set up in the backyard. Music was blasting from speakers, kids were laughing and shouting when this song came on. The kids stopped jumping, joined hands and all of them, boys and girls sang along to “Let it Go”. It was totally spontaneous and one of the most beautiful things I’d ever seen or heard. Parents just stopped whatever they were doing to watch and listen There were quite a few tears because it was all so innocently beautiful.
We played the song a few more times that day to see if the scene could be recreated but they never did it again.
I used to enjoy this kind of thing. Letha loved to decorate and Christmas was a big deal.
Now, I don’t feel much of anything. Just a hollow kind of sadness. The youngest who lives with me got out a little one-foot tall artificial tree she got somewhere and sat it on the coffee table, but that is it.
I used to decorate inside with tree and knick-knacks and paint a picture on the picture window, drummer boy and peace dove are two that I remember. And baked lots of cookies. About 10 years ago I hosted a family gathering with niece and nephews pulling out all the decorations before dinner. Haven’t decorated even a cookie since. I like the after-dark driving though with so many houses having lights.

Awh Chuck… that,s sad. You ‘ve been through too much. Seen too much.. of the foreboding sides oh humanity.
But.. then you wrote this wonder!
In trying to do three right things, I’ve lost much too. And, though I luv people for what they can be, I’m vexed greatly by what the mostly are.
That’s why it is so great here at FFS.
GET out n see some lights;
and find some season song plays.
Christmas spirit instills hope for humanity
Hum hah Mike,
I was born Christian, shelter tried to force me to become Catholic (cause my father who left was)
And then, 14 years or so ago, I learned my.believed to be g rand mother, was actually my step grand.
That my actual grand mother died giving birth to my mom. Upon learning I might be Jewish.. I began studying and Shavitz and going to temple.
Learning facts about traditionalism helped free me from RW bondage.
Now have an adopted grand mother, 94.. who has a WONDERFUL story of survival from WW2
Seeing her this week
