The town of Parma, Missouri, recently elected its first black mayor. Tyrus Byrd, a woman who served as the town clerk years ago, was sworn in as mayor last Tuesday. Prior to her swearing in, five of Parma’s six police officers resigned.

Randall Ramsey, Parma’s former mayor, said that the city’s attorney, clerk, and the waste water treatment plant supervisor  also resigned. They reportedly cited “safety concerns” in their letters of resignation. Ramsey said that “the city employees gave no prior notice.”

Raw Story:

Residents of the town, some pointing out that the town was probably over-staffed with police, were unconcerned about their safety after the two full-time and three part-time officers quit.

KFVS reported that after Byrd was sworn into office on Tuesday the letters of resignation could not be found and “that the computers were cleared.”

According to KFVS, Byrd said “her first order of business will be to help clean up the city.”

The town is better off without them!

    Just a coincidence I suppose.

  3. I have been doing a little digging into what I can find of a back story. Seems the previous mayor had been in office over thirty years. The town was run by a clique of “good ol’ boys,” and their concern about “safety” may be real. All the town’s computers have been scrubbed. I wonder if they fear they may be indicted? As mayor, she gets to see where the money is coming from and where it goes.

I recall reading that Ollie North deleted files from his computer, but some wag remarked that he had not met Peter Norton. Unless they actually removed the hard drives, those files are probably recoverable. Somebody bring the popcorn. This is about to get interesting.

As I read this I assumed the city was majority black.
    (from wikipedia)
As of the census of 2010. The racial makeup of the city was 67.46% White, 29.45% Black or African American.

Maybe this will be a trend in the show-me-state? Lord knows Ferguson could use some changes, let alone the state.

If people are resigning because the new mayor is Black, good riddance. It’s interesting that their resignations have disappeared. Maybe they had a change of heart but if the previous mayor accepted their resignations, that could be the end of that. I’m with Chuck. She needs to hire a top notch computer sleuth to find those computer files, maybe turn them over to a state attorney, hmmm, this is Missouri, right? Never mind.
