Texas Teacher Fired after Posting Facebook Comments Suggesting a Return to Segregation of the Races Might Be a Good Idea

From Jia Tolentino of Jezebel:

A fourth-grade teacher at Bennett Elementary School in Frenship ISD, which serves Lubbock, TX, has written, deleted, and faced widespread public shame for a Facebook post in which she details her anger at Eric Casebolt’s resignation and her support for a return to a bygone era in which blacks were formally segregated on one side of the town.

Tolentino said that the teacher, Karen Fitzgibbons, “saw the video screenshotted in the post she shared—saw a white agent of the state pull his gun on a bunch of teenagers while brutalizing” a black girl and wrote:

This makes me ANGRY! This officer should not have had to resign. I’m going to just go ahead and say it… the blacks are the ones causing the problems and this “racial tension.” I guess that’s what happens when you flunk out of school and have no education. I’m sure their parents are just as guilty for not knowing what their kids were doing, or knew it and didn’t care. I’m almost to the point of wanting them all segregated on one side of town so they can hurt each other and leave the innocent people alone. Maybe the 50s and 60s were really on to something. now, let the bashing of my true and honest opinion begin… GO! #imnotracist #imsickofthemcausingtrouble #itwasagatedcommunity

Isn’t that a lovely Facebook rant coming from a public elementary school teacher? So much for a post racial America, huh?

Tolentino said that it is safe to say that anytime you hear someone saying “I’m not racist,” they’re hella racist. She added that it is “the historically cancerous cousin of ‘I don’t mean to be rude.’” She continued, “It’s also phenomenal that the intellectual escapism around race in America is such that a white woman can see that video, write a post longing for the good old days when blacks didn’t have civil rights, and then honestly think she can claim not to be racist.”

A statement from Frenship ISD reads: “If an employee’s use of electronic media interferes with the employee’s ability to effectively perform his or her job duties, the employee is subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.”

According to Tolentino, Fitzgibbons apologized. Evidently, that wasn’t enough for her school district. Officials from the Frenship Independent School District fired Fitzgibbons, a fourth-grade teacher at Bennett Elementary School in Wolfforth, for making the controversial post.

While I am not a fan of any worker losing their job due to their off the job activities, this lady needs a new profession.

  5. Sometimes they let the hood slip without meaning to. Somebody forgot to tell her that what you put on the Intertoobz, however briefly, can come back to bite you in the butt when you least expect it.

In her case, when she most deserved it.

Just like back “in the good old days”. When they “knew their place”.

It is sad to see so many people who still think like this. She received 9 “likes”. Seriously?!

I hope she realizes one day that she is in fact “a racist”.

It would not surprise me if it were to be discovered that she is a bigot.

  8. That karma. She is a wheel.

What’s the world coming to when even the state of Texas thinks you’re too much of a bigoted assh@le to be teaching 4th graders.

Load up the u-haul honey, we all is’a goin to Arkansas.

I agree with rafflaw, I don’t like people losing their jobs over comments made on their own time. In this case, her comments show a bigotry that is bound to affect her job, teaching children. With a belief that “those people” are the guilty ones and the whites are the innocents, she is a prime candidate for shortchanging the education of the African American and Hispanics in her classroom. She needs to find another line of work.

Here’s something about the white woman who started the altercation at the swimming pool in McKinney, Texas:

Woman Who Started Pool Party Brawl Suspended From Job For Being A Racist A**hole
    http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/06/11/woman-who-started-pool-party-brawl-suspended-from-job-for-being-a-racist-ahole/

    Excerpt:
I know some people have a problem with using social media to ruin a person’s life. They feel it’s a kind of bullying. But let’s be honest, the only way we’re EVER going to deal with the nauseating race problem in this country is by showing people that it’s NOT OK to scream racial epithets at children, physically assault them, and then call the cops:

After a Twitter campaign to identify two white women at a now-infamous McKinney pool party who were caught on tape locked in a punching, hair-pulling attack on a young African American girl succeeded in pinpointing Tracey-Carver Allbritton, Allbritton has been placed on administrative leave from her job.

“CoreLogic does not condone violence, discrimination or harassment and takes conduct that is inconsistent with our values and expectations very seriously,” the firm wrote in a statement reported by Dallas News. “As a result of these pending allegations, we have placed the employee in question on administrative leave while further investigations take place.”

…the real definition of bullying is being able to start a racist fight with a bunch of black kids, have the cops show up and treat the kids like criminals while you get to sit back and laugh. Or do you feel that’s just the way things are. so it doesn’t really count?
