There’s a reason a bow is tied in a square or granny knot–slippage. While that may work fine sitting in the cubicle or riding the barcalounger, doing any real movement would cause untold tightening.
If you don’t mind a bit of slop in your shoes anyway, a simple square knot at top is effective. I’ve worked places where granules constantly fill your shoes and only have five seconds or so to clear them.
