Site Update: Suggestions

At the suggestion(s) of our extended blog family a.k.a. the readers and commentators here at FFS the following changes have been made to the site:

Site Archive by Month – A pull down widget.  Also, for those who do not know, if you click on a specific author’s name on the list at the top of the sidebar?  You will get an archive of all of their posts.

Category Cloud – I’ll start encouraging the use of categories (especially for myself!) to make this a more useful widget.

Tag Cloud – Not only did you want it, but you got it so much that you are indeed “it”.

Thanks for helping to make FFS a truly community driven blog!

Query: How useful do you think the “Recent Posts” widget is considering your new options to look up older columns?  If it is of limited utility, I’m considering removing or resizing that widget to save “real estate”.  Let me know what you think in the comments below . . .

It looks like most posts have some tags on them…. You could change the default on the category so every post does not go into Uncatagorized.

  2. Too confining for a blog with such a diverse group of interests.

I like it and am still waiting for the recipe section

    Blouise,

Will you be providing the recipes?

    Elaine,

I’d work on it if Gene wanted me to … I could call myself “The Masked Cookie” and use Categories to organize it

First up would be the Almond Torte! Category: Recipes, Sub-category: Desserts

I posted this once already but the filter ate it so I’ll try again.

Ok, that’s twice so I need help. I have a reply to Elaine that I tried to post 2 times but isn’t coming up. Would someone please release one of them?

    Blouise,

We also need a category called Luscious Libations…or some such. We can start with the recipe for my champagne mango martini…and go on from there to some of my other concoctions, including pear martinis, strawberry daiquiris, orange martinis, lemon martinis, mojitos…and my special summer drink–which I call–New England Iced Tea.

These are probably WordPress issues, but can each comment below the article be sequentially numbered? I’d rather type, “The averment in Comment 56 is without factual babsis,” rather than, “SillyNelly, you blow.”

At the other site I would have really liked the ability to block comments by certain posters, saves on the rapid scrolling muscles. Don’t need is so much here.

    Elaine,
Libations are critical to any success. Tex developed a Mai Tai derivative that has become a family “must serve”.

Locavore Libations 😉 … one doesn’t have to move off the blog to find a local favorite … the more one imbibes, the better the wordplay.

    Blouise,

I’d love to get that Mai Tais recipe!

BTW, I found some champagne mangos at the supermarket the other day and made some of those delicious martinis tonight for my daughter and myself. Yum! I haven’t had one in a long time.

    Elaine,

There must have been a shipment as I also found some last weekend and Tex and I enjoyed your martinis on Sunday.

All you social drinkers! There is only one proper way for a Highlander to drink, and that is in a dark, and locked room.

  14. gbk,
There is no truth to the claim that even the Russian Army could not capture a Glasgow pub. They could do it easily in three days, provided they used tactical nukes.

  15. Blouise's avatar Blouise says:

    gbk and Chuck,

As Calgacus would say: saoirse teach tábhairne!

  16. gbk's avatar gbk says:

    Chuck,
Naw, it would take at least five working days.

    Blouise,
    Okidoki!

  17. If it happened in May or October, the Russians would likely end up drinking with the Scots.

    Just sayin’.

    More like May through October.
