We’ve been snowed under here in my area of Massachusetts. In the past couple of weeks, we have gotten around five feet of snow. Meteorologists are predicting another storm on Thursday. I’m sure this will be one of our snowiest winters on record. The winter of 2010-2011 was pretty bad too. I was housebound for a time during that snow-filled season. One thing that kept me occupied was writing children’s poems about snow, winter weather, and icicles. This morning, I thought I’d post a couple of those poems–as well as a few photos that I took from inside my house.
It’s Snowing Again!
By Elaine Magliaro
It’s snowing again.
It’s blowing again.
It’s snowing and blowing.
The traffic is slowing.
The drifts keep on growing and growing and GROWING.
It just keeps on snowing
and snowing and snowing.
I don’t think it’s
EVER
going
to end.
It Snowed and Snowed
By Elaine Magliaro
It snowed all day.
It snowed all night.
It snowed and snowed.
Two feet of white
covered everything in sight.
Our yard,
our deck,
our walk,
the road
don’t look the same
because it snowed…
and snowed
and snowed
and snowed
and snowed.
I dress up in my winter wear
and step out in the frosty air.
I look around and what I see
is a marshmallow world
waiting for me!

The pic scared the kid in me!
I love them both!
I can’t wait to share these with my kindergartner.
ps … the video from MB school was a huge hit so the name, Elaine, carries certain magical connotations. I’ve read a few of your other poems to her over the years but, thanks to your posting that video, she now asks, “Has Miss Elaine posted anything?” She’s going to be thrilled and more than willing to practice her memorization skills.
Thanks
I think I may send your poem to my grandkids on their next snow day! The pictures are lovely, as long as you don’t have to venture out in it.
