Evan McMurry (Mediaite) said yesterday that there seems to be a new trend among right-wing bloggers–“smearing dead people in the news.”

McMurry:

A new craze is sweeping the nation: attacking the character of murdered people for their perceived ideological crimes.

Hours after news that the death of ISIS hostage Kayla Mueller had been confirmed, a report emanated from the conservative blogosphere alleging Mueller had served as a “human shield” for a pro-Hamas group. Mueller worked for a pro-Palestinian organization in 2010-11, and also for a variety of refugee organizations in Israel and Turkey.

In a column for TPM Livewire, Brendan James wrote: “Not all conservatives used the death of American hostage Kayla Mueller to highlight the brutality of the Islamic State — some decided to focus their disgust on the 26-year-old’s humanitarian work for Palestinians.”

One of those conservatives was blogger/hatemonger/Islamophobe Debbie Schlussel who wrote a blog post under the heading Kayla Mueller: Dead ISIS Hostage Was Jew-Hating, Anti-Israel Bitch. Schlussel said that she had “No tears for the newly-departed Kayla Mueller…” Schlussel added, “Mueller was a Jew-hating, anti-Israel piece of crap who worked with HAMAS and helped Palestinians harass Israeli soldiers and block them from doing their job of keeping Islamic terrorists out of Israel.”

Schlussel:

As I noted last week and many other times on this site, I have no sympathy for any of these “American” (in name only!) hostages of ISIS. And my attitude when I hear they’ve been snuffed out is, so sad, too bad. Every single one of these hostages has been a leftist America-hater. They are anti-American “journalists” there to tell us how “moderate” and “democratic” these beheaders and live-human-burners are. Or they are anti-American “aid workers” (that’s like the Middle East version of Barack Obama’s “community organizer”).

Schlussel concluded her post with the following two sentences:

When people ask me what I think of Kayla Mueller, I’ll say, I think she’s incinerated.

Buh-bye, Kayla. Have fun with your 72 Yasser Arafats.

On his Politics Blog (Esquire) yesterday, Charles Pierce said that Kayla Mueller was the “wrong kind of dead hostage.” Speaking of Schlussel, Pierce wrote:

Ms. Street Meat was the star of a Wall Street Journal piece from seven years ago about the pathetic attempts by some people seeking a career in television gobshitery, a pathetic career goal to become the next Ann Coulter. Or something. This did not work out for Ms. Schlussel, who remains merely pathetic, and who returned to her digs under a bridge somewhere.

The late Kayla Mueller–for whom hate monger Debbie Schlussel has no tears to shed–was no “bitch.” Cassandra Vinograd of NBC News said that the young woman’s “path to Syria was born out of a lifelong dedication to humanitarian work. She won several volunteering awards as a teen, focusing on causes such as the genocide in Darfur first in high school and later as a student at Northern Arizona University — where she also founded the student chapter of Amnesty International.” And Marc Silver of NPR wrote that Mueller had ” a big place in her heart for displaced Syrians.”

Samantha Laine of the Christian Science Monitor wrote:

Ms. Mueller graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2009, and devoted her life to humanitarian efforts around the world. From 2009 to 2011, she worked with humanitarian aid groups in northern India, the Palestinian territories, and Israel. In 2012, she was drawn to the plight of Syrian refugees on the Turkish/Syrian border to work with Support to Life, the Danish Refugee Council and other organizations that assisted refugees who were forced to flee their homeland.
