I’m sure most of you are familiar with the saying “You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.” It seems like common sense that by being polite and thoughtful towards others that you’ll be more likely to persuade them toward your way of thinking than by being rude and combative. But a Boise women decided to try a rude and combative approach when trying to convert a Jewish acquaintance to Christianity.

Margurite Dawn Haragan, 58, is now “facing felony charges after police say she beat, kicked, and stomped on the neck of a Jewish woman in an attempt to convert her to Jesus.” Prosecutors called it a hate crime and have charged Haragan “with two counts of malicious harassment for beating the woman identified in court documents as ‘A.G.’” According to Katie Terhune of KTVB, prosecutors said that the incident “started when Haragan showed up at the victim’s home Feb. 5.”

Ada County Prosecutor Dave Roscheck was quoted as saying, “The defendant was banging on the front window yelling at her that she better believe in Jesus and she was not going to leave until she did believe in Jesus.” Roscheck  said that “A.G.,” the Jewish victim, opened her door to tell Haragan to leave…and to write down Haragan’s license plate number. That’s when Haragan reportedly  slapped the victim “in the face and dragged her to the ground by her hair.” Roscheck added, “The defendant began kicking the victim in the stomach and thigh area. During this time the defendant was screaming at the victim that she better accept Jesus or she would not let up.”

Prosecutors said Haragan also “stepped onto A.G.’s neck as she lay on the ground, pressing down with her foot and pulling up on the woman’s head and hair.” They said the victim eventually told Haragan that “she would become a Christian in an attempt to placate her attacker.” Haragan then let her go.

According to court documents, however, Haragan returned to the victim’s home two days later. She carved “death bin bond” into the victim’s mailbox and cut up her mail. Terhune said if Haragan is convicted of malicious harassment, she “could face up to five years in prison for each count.”

I doubt Jesus would approve of Harragan’s approach to converting Jewish people to Christianity.

    Haragan? More like harridan!😄

    Loving the persuasion technique.

  3. I am guessing she is a good candidate for a mental exam. It would be legal malpractice if her defense attorney didn’t ask for an evaluation. This kind of behavior is far more than Haragan being a “true believer.” I suspect a major mental illness. Our mental health system is in such disarray, and insurers don’t want to pay for treatment, that jails have become the new psychiatric units.

Sad, especially if her problem turns out to be something that could have been easily treatable with medications and psychotherapy.

  4. I’ve read the Bible. I don’t recall Jesus saying, “Lo unto the nonbeliever, bestow upon them copious blows.” That’s in the lost Gospel of Randy the Machoman Savage to which the Council of Nicaea said “Umm . . . no.” Which is strange considering both the Inquisition and the Crusades.

I believe the wording is “Smite them, smite them as thou would thy redheaded stepchilde”.

  6. pete says:

It was one of the Acts of the Apostles nobody likes to talk about.

So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
    John 2:15

    Love a good smite.

  9. pete,

You’re clearly working from the NIV Bible. You know. The Nearly Insane Version.

And what Mark said. Smite is a much funnier word.

  10. amunre says:

What do you want to bet she runs for Congress in the great state of Idaho…Hey she might even win!

  11. Mike Spindell says:

She was only trying to save the woman’s eternal soul and tell her the “good news”, that God is love.

  12. Inga says:

Oh what a friend we have in Jesus…

  13. Anonymously Yours says:

Is Idaho in the Mideast, I swear when you read something as batshit crazy as that you have to wonder…she must have read the conversion techniques used by Muslims, Christians and Jews …
