Dumbass Politician from Oklahoma Throws Snowball on the Senate Floor in an Effort to Prove That Climate Change Is a Hoax (VIDEOS)

In January, climate change denier Senator James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) officially took the gavel as chairman of the Senate’s Environment Committee. Later in the day, “he took the Senate floor for a long speech about how human-caused climate change is fake.”

Emily Atkin (ThinkProgress):

In sum, the speech has everything. References to the oft-debunked “ClimateGate” stolen e-mail “scandal”, a poster of a Time Magazine cover from 1974 claiming an ice age is coming, and multiple references to former Vice President Al Gore. It has a mention of a survey of weather-casters who think global warming is caused by natural variation, but does not mention that weather-casters are not climate scientists. It even includes the claim that the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change “started” the whole idea that climate change is happening, even though the idea was conceived about 200 years ago.

Inhofe was back at it again this week–trying to debunk the fact that climate change is real by throwing a snowball on the Senate floor.

Philip Bump (Washington Post) sarcastically claimed that Inhofe had, “once and for all, disproven climate change.” Bump wrote, “While ‘eggheads’ at ‘science laboratories’ were busy worrying about how the increase in heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere was leading to a long-term upward shift in temperatures and increased atmospheric moisture, Inhofe happened to notice that it was cold outside. Weirdly cold outside. So cold, in fact, that water falling from the sky had frozen solid.” Bump added, “So he brought some of this frozen water into the Capitol and onto the Senate floor to show everyone, but mostly to show the eggheads.”

Inhofe said to his audience, “It’s very, very cold out. Very unseasonable.” Then, Inhofe “turned to his prop for a bit of ‘scientific analysis.’” “So,” he said to the sitting Senate president as he threw the snowball, “catch this.”

Later, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island) had a few words to say about the dumbass climate change denying senator who threw the snowball.

  1. Anonymously Yours says:

I think that the nature of nature us continuos and keeps changing as well as the seasons. I think man has speeded up to natural order, but we will still have change.

Doesn’t take much to convince them, well them on the right anyway. Idiot.

  3. buckaroo says:

“GISS’s director Gavin Schmidt has now admitted NASA thinks the likelihood that 2014 was the warmest year since 1880 is just 38 per cent. However, when asked whether he regretted that the his news release did not mention this, he did not respond. Another analysis, from the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) project, drawn from ten times as many measuring stations as GISS, concluded that if 2014 was a record year, it was by an even tinier amount. Its report said: ‘Numerically, our best estimate for the global temperature of 2014 puts it slightly above (by 0.01C) that of the next warmest year (2010) but by much less than the margin of uncertainty.“ How anyone can argue that laws are needed based on this kind if shifting sand science is unclear. The alarmists are demanding progressive state control, which is what socialists are always demanding. So pardon my skepticism regarding their true motive, which is power, not ‘taking care of the earth …for the children.’

    buckaroo,
So, are you saying that Pogo said the passage that you have in quotes?
Are you at all familiar with the idea that when you quote something, you need to include where you got it from?
There are no reputable news organizations reporting this. Only the ignorant, foaming-at-the-mouth teabilly blogs are saying it. And you’re parroting it.
    Nice try…well, not really.

  5. Bob Kauten says:

OK, akismet ate my answer to buckaroo. Shall we try again?
    buckaroo,
You present a long quote from someone. Did Pogo write it?
Are you familiar with the rather esoteric requirement, that if you put something in quotes, it needs to be sourced?
No reputable news organization has reported your quote. I can find it only on numskull teabilly, anti-science nutjob blogs. And of course, you parroted it, being the flowers for socrates representative for that group.

  6. Bob Kauten says:

OK, akismet ate my answer to buckaroo, twice. Shall we try again?

Good! I got akismet to vomit! Only took 5 tries…that’s better than usual.

  11. swarthmoremom says:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/27/the-big-melt-antarctica_n_6766290.html “Over at NASA, ice scientist Eric Rignot said the melting “is going way faster than anyone had thought. It’s kind of a red flag.”

What’s happening is simple physics. Warm water eats away at the ice from underneath. Then more ice is exposed to the water, and it too melts. Finally, the ice above the water collapses into the water and melts.

Climate change has shifted the wind pattern around the continent, pushing warmer water farther north against and below the western ice sheet and the peninsula. The warm, more northerly water replaces the cooler water that had been there. It’s only a couple degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the water that used to be there, but that makes a huge difference in melting, scientists said.

The world’s fate hangs on the question of how fast the ice melts.”

  12. Mike Spindell says:

So Buckaroo, are you a reader, or merely another Koch agent spreading bullshit for your master?

Above your refer to BEST (Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature Project) as a source. It is said of this “independent study”:

The Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) results were entirely expected, consistent with the existing body of peer-reviewed science. We expected that the BEST results would be a minor footnote in climate science history – one more study affirming the accuracy of the surface temperature record, and that the “skeptics” would finally stop denying its accuracy, as they promised they would. After all, the study was privately funded, including by the anti-climate science Koch Brothers, and involved Richard Muller and Judith Curry, two scientists quite skeptical of the global warming theory.”

Does one call scientists working for corporations to maintain profits scientists?

    and your comment concludes:

“So pardon my skepticism regarding their true motive, which is power, not ‘taking care of the earth …for the children.”

So I suppose we all should be grateful to the Koch Brothers and their self-serving campaign to keep profits growing as our world declines? FFS is a site that encourages people of all points of view to express themselves. However, we disdain those who are mere analinguists to the powerful because being in the bully hierarchy fits their insecure personality types.

This guy needs to be in charge chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee like Kanye West needs to be the spokesman for Modesty International. You can’t invite someone to have control over science programs – inherently rooted in the scientific method and the empirical observation of nature and reproducible experiments bases thereon to derive facts – who uses stone age mythology – inherently based on belief not provable or falsifiable fact – as the foundation of not just his arguments but his general mode of thought.

“The arrogance of people to think that we, human beings, would be able to change what He is doing in the climate is to me outrageous,” he said.

There is some arrogance going on here, Jim. Just not where you think it is.
