Fort Lauderdale Police Officers Fired Over Racist Text Messages and Video

By Elaine Magliaro

WSVN reported today that the FBI “is launching an inquiry into the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s internal affairs investigation that led to the firing of three police officers over racial slurs’ that they used in personal text messages and a racist video. The video, titled The Hoods, was created by former Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Alex Alvarez. Alvarez, 22, resigned from the police department while the internal affairs investigation was ongoing.

According to investigators, Officer Alvarez’s former fiancée e-mailed the video to Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Frank Adderley last October. Investigators said that “she also e-mailed racist text messages between Alvarez and three other officers.” Those officers—Christopher Sousa, James Wells and Jason Holding—were all fired on Friday.

The video made by Alex Alvarez:

The text messages, which were released after a news conference Friday, included the use of the N-word and Wells referring to someone as a “Retarded brown.”…

Adderley said the officers claimed they were just jokes, but authorities indicated there is zero tolerance for any type of racism in the department.

Huffington Post:

“I had a wet dream that you two found those n—–s in the VW and gave them the death penalty right there on the spot,” one of the texts reads. Many of their extremely hostile and racially charged conversations can be read at the Sun Sentinel.

According to another text, one of the officers said, “We are coming and drinking all your beer and killing n—–s.”

The Grio:

While their actions aren’t illegal, the officers were officially terminated due to department misconduct; including conduct unbecoming of a police officer and engaging in conduct prejudicial to the good of the order of the police department.

Jack Seiler, Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, said that he was “very disappointed, disgusted and shocked by this incident.” Seiler added, “The inappropriate racist behavior exhibited by those involved is unacceptable and reprehensible. It violates the trust we place in our law enforcement officers; it damages the bond we have established with our community; and it undermines the standards to which each and every City employee is held accountable.”

In a statement, Mayor Seiler told 7News, “We intend to fully cooperate with the FBI and provide them with any relevant information and documentation they need to facilitate the inquiry.” Seiler also said, “We will continue to focus on restoring the trust we place in our law enforcement officers, and in helping our law enforcement officers [to] repair any damage to the strong bonds they have established with our community.”

You’ll find more details on this story in this article from the Broward Palm Beach New Times:

Fort Lauderdale Cops Fired for Racist Texts and Video About Killing Black People

I don’t think I will watch that video with the scary police dog, Elaine. Glad they were fired.

  3. swarthmoremom says: “he department’s investigation found officers allegedly talked about “killing niggers” and shared text messages using the phrases including “nigger lover,” “retarded brown,” and “faggot,” according to the New Times.

The officers also allegedly shared a video, which the New Times reported had been created by Alvarez.

The mock movie trailer for “The Hoods” used the word “niggers” and showed a dog attacking a black man. The video also depicted President Obama with gold teeth and included Ku Klux Klan imagery.” Reads like the Turley blog these days. This picture of Obama is bad enough but the disgusting misogynistic picture of Hillary Clinton they put up over there out does that one for vileness.

Don’t you think we’re rushing to judgment about these officers of the law. Aren’t these canines entitled to the benefit of a doubt? Oopsie, wrong blog…….Never mind.

“Good article. As for me, I get enough subliminal politicking on TV, every time the idiots do an anti-gun show, or some sort of mean white person picking o innocent negroes, or the pro Gay nonsense. But, it would have been interesting to ask a barista, “Hey, how come most Black folks don’t get married and have their kids in wedlock??? Is some White guy blocking their access to the county clerk where they hand out marriage licenses???” or, “Hey, how come is it 60 years after Brown v. Board of education is it that sooo many Black kids can’t read or write worth a hoot, and think it is “acting White” to get an education???”

But, they would probably just spit in my chai tea the next time I was in.”

Girl Reporter Mike, you are way to civil for the current crops of posters on that blog.

    oops crop

Interesting that racist, bigoted, misogynistic, homophobic comments are considered civil/acceptable over at the other place. On the other hand, comments that are made by people in response to personal attacks made on them are considered to be uncivil and get deleted. Go figure.

Elaine, I posted a a couple of times there Saturday after having not posted there since some time last year. I don’t think I will do that again as it just enables them to keep that mess going on. We were at a movie and I clicked on the site before the movie started. The semi-nude photo shopped picture of Hillary Clinton popped up on my phone and my husband saw it. He asked me what I was looking at? lol I said the new version of the Jonathan Turley blog.
