Song for a Sunday Morning: Coldplay’s Chris Martin Sings “Til Kingdom Come” at Beau Biden’s Funeral

Posted by Elaine Magliaro

At Beau Biden’s Funeral on Saturday, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin sang a version of the group’s 2005 song “Til Kingdom Come.” Martin reportedly volunteered to perform at the funeral service after hearing that Beau Biden had been a longtime fan.

A wonderful song at a very sad event.

Beautifully done and a thoughtful, generous gift to the wife and children.

As to Cruz’s apology, “It was a mistake to use an old joke about Joe Biden …”, sure Ted, you should have used a new one. Typical Texas Sub-human Tool.

ted was insensitive. but, I will never forget how my democrats acted at the Wellstone funeral. I was shocked and ashamed. I am not depending on the reporting. I was there. turning a funeral into a political event is heartless and classless.

  6. “turning a funeral into a political event is heartless and classless.”

And yet it happens all the time, regardless of party affiliation and to both positive and negative spin. Nothing quite grabs the attention like opportunistic sensationalism. Mass media manipulation at its “finest”. Tactically, it is a sound move, but quite often it can backfire spectacularly when tone deaf and/or poorly executed. Sometimes, it is both.

The question is this: Would Cruz have gotten any attention at all for simply expressing his condolences?

    Probably not.

Related: What does a Presidential hopeful crave more than anything?

The attention of his or her targeted sector within the various subgroups of the electorate.

To that end, Cruz’s remarks both worked and failed. They worked because they got him attention and attention with his often irrationally partisan base. They failed though because to anyone who is either not part of that narrow segment or simply a decent human being regardless of political persuasion, he sounded like a callous jackass.

Did that tradeoff work in a cost/benefit analysis?

Arguments can be made either way.

    agnostic,

Kahn was the Wellstone boys’ choice but that’s okay, criticize them as heartless and classless. Having been there I’m sure you saw them clearly.

Now, what relation is the merely insensitive Cruz to Biden?

    (A-trolling we all go)

After all, it was not Trent Lott’s son that died.

Thank goodness Cruz hasn’t got a real chance at getting the nomination, much less becoming President.

    SwM,

This is the latest talking point Cruz is using to excuse his blunder so that the teabaggers will keep paying him to speak at their political functions. It’s snide but it plays well with the phony “family values” crowd. After all, it’s just democrats and their kids dying.

    I. Annie,

He’s just doing a Palin … getting as much as he can until Jeb takes over. None of these wannabes stand a chance in the general and they all know it.
