Mark Halperin, a news journalist who is the co-managing editor of Bloomberg Politics and a frequent contributor on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, is reportedly going to co-host an early morning pilates session with Ann Romney as part of a getaway for Republican kingmakers. According to Brendan James of TPM, Halperin “plans to be stretching and rolling up into a ball on Saturday alongside a group of GOP megadonors at a weekend retreat being held by Mitt and Ann Romney.”

James reported that a spokesperson for Bloomberg had declined to comment on Friday when reached by TPM. He added that the pilates session is only one of many activities–or “enthusiast sessions.” James said that other activities include “flag football with Sen. Marco Rubio and skeet shooting with Sen. Lindsey Graham.”

Halperin will reportedly be the only journalist at the retreat participating in, rather than covering, the event.

From Time:

Imagine that–a well-known “journalist” who provides news analysis and provides his “unbiased” professional opinion on political figures and important political issues feels it’s appropriate for him to hobnob with GOP megadonors at a “getaway for Republican kingmakers.” Is it any wonder that we can’t trust much of the news and political analysis that we get from the mainstream media these days?

FYI: Back in June of 2011, Halperin was suspended by MSNBC after he called President Obama “kind of a dick” on Morning Joe. He reportedly quickly apologized. Halperin, who was an editor at large for Time then, said,  “I thought he was a kind of a dick yesterday”–referring to the president’s conduct during a press conference.

I’d say that Halperin is kind of a dick. What do you think?

I’ve heard the terms RINO’s and DINO’s, now we have JINO’s. Mark Halperin, Andrea Mitchell, Peggy Noonan, Joe Klein and whatever the hell Joe Scarborough is.

  2. Beside, as I once heard him called, a dick-nosed putz?
Until I heard that term applied to Scarborough, I had always thought that was a rare Alsatian game bird.
There’s a lot of JINO going around, pete, especially in American media. What passes for reporting these days would make Winchell weep.

Halperin has been a shill for quite a long time. What on one level astounds me, on another level feels like of course it’s that way. I’m talking about the self important asses of the pundit class, that pretend to be neutral observers. George Will has acted that way his whole public life and made a good living from it. Nobody ever got poor flacking for the 1%.

The Mark Halperinization of American Journalism

If you leave out the evil dumbfks who actually run the news business, the worst two things that have happened to American political journalism in the past 30 years are Maureen Dowd and Mark Halperin. Dowd, because of her relentless, obsessive need to take her own galloping Oedipal neuroses for an outing every time there’s an election, and Halperin, because he long ago invented the kind of Beltway insidery railbird bullshit that passes today for analysis. (This is, occasionally, referred to as “horse-race journalism,” but that’s unfair to people like my friend, the great Bill Nack. Actual horse-race journalism will tell you what you need to know about horse racing. The Racing Form will give you more substantive information on the sixth race at Monmouth Park today than Halperin has given you on American politics in the past two decades.) But the worst effect they both have had on the business is the influence their success has had on everyone else. Dowd, at least, can write a little. Most of her imitators can’t. And, if it weren’t for Halperin and his Drudge-mongering, his link-whoring, and his curious S&M relationship with various talk-radio hosts, there wouldn’t be Politico, and, this being the first presidential election of the Politico era, we end up with the thoroughgoing Halperinization of the process, with predictably grim results.

Mitt Romney Is Having a Party This Weekend, and You’re Not Invited
Republican donors are gathering for a retreat with Mitt Romney.

This weekend is the third annual gathering of the hacks and the hopeless at Willard Romney’s mountain lair in Utah. It will come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that our elite political journalists are on the case—to say nothing of being on the jock.

They can even do “Sunrise Pilates” with Bloomberg reporter Mark Halperin and the former first lady aspirant Ann Romney.

That’s just too fking adorable, although it may make Rafalca jealous. If Halperin later is found in a ditch with a horseshoe-shaped bruise in the center of his forehead, I hope the horse has a good lawyer.

We really are just haggling about the price these days.

Don’t know what happened to my previous post. I’ll try again.

Wayne Madsen Reports has a chart of 52 or 54 media members, all major media outlets represented, who have various family members working in government or partisan politics. His entry for Halperin:

Bloomberg’s Halperin Scheduled To Conduct “Sunrise Pilates” Session With Ann Romney At GOP Donor Retreat

Bloomberg Politics co-managing editor Mark Halperin is scheduled to conduct a “Sunrise Pilates” session co-hosted by Ann Romney at a retreat for wealthy Republican donors.

His official biography says Halperin “leads Bloomberg’s political and policy coverage, including news, analysis, commentary, narrative, data analytics and more across all platforms.”…

Halperin’s past work includes a column suggesting that a racially based attack on Barack Obama was a viable strategy for Republicans in 2008, while another advised Republicans on how to win the 2010 midterm election. In 2011, Halperin was suspended by MSNBC for calling President Obama a “dick.”
