NOTICE: Test Drives

Over the next few weeks, the staff at FFS is going to be experimenting with new themes and layouts for the site. Please bear with our changes and feel free to comment below on whether you like or dislike a particular theme. I will post a new notice with each new theme tested for comments. This is the theme Tonal.

Thank you for your input.  Tonal has been ruled a non-starter.

Don’t like this setup. I can’t view the whole site…can’t see the most recent posts or comments.

Agree with Elaine. This one is not user friendly.

I also agree this is not user friendly, but there is a certain “clearness” in the formatting that is an improvement. For some reason too, the site looks washed out on my laptop.Keep it up though because we need to change.

    • The way to see all the widgets is to click on the Menu icon at the top. It looks like a box with three lines in it. As for washout, there are a lot of palette options or one can be custom set.

Too cumbersome to have to click on the menu icon. This is not user friendly.

I agree with swarthmoremom that it’s too cumbersome. I think ease of use is most important for blog readers.

I have to agree that it is not user friendly.

  7. Nope. This is definitely not what we need or want. The old site was fine for the time being. More traditional for most bloggers. Typefaces too big, and the colors don’t work. How about making a shadow site and fiddle with that while we are figuring out how to do this. That is what Daily Kos is doing with DK5 before the switch from DK4. Let users play with it, then after it is implemented, make the desired changes more or less permanent.

Let’s talk about this backchannel. No one wants to see how sausage…or haggis…is made.

    • Here’s the rub. I’m time constrained at the moment so I have limited options from my phone. Also hindered by WP removing the preview function from Themes. Plan is for now to run a new test theme for a day, take feedback and then switch back until a new theme is settled upon.

      • Okay, I think enough feedback for that one, so I went ahead and reverted. Warning: The experiments will continue on and off over the next few weeks.

I’m not smart enough to use this one. Of course, it does keep troll riff-raff, (no reference to you, rafflaw) like me, out of the site.

OK, clicking on the box with 3 lines icon takes me to WordPress. Then what?

  10. My opinion in a single picture:

Still no comments on the side.

  12. Looks as if we need to shift over to WordPress.org. I will be talking with my hosting service help desk in a short while in order to find out what we need to do. Lot more flexibility, but many of the best themes are still free.

If I can’t see the comments on the side, I have no clue regarding who I should taunt.
“Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time-a!”

Right now I cant find a list of authors or recent comments. I can’t even find recent articles – some but not the ones I am looking for.

At this point is near impossible to treat the board like an ongoing conversation.

The nice thing about the old board was that we could check in, go and do something else and check back in without loosing the thread. This is not working for me.
