1994 – The IRA declares Northern Ireland cease-fire after 25 years of bloodshed

1997 – Princess Diana, Dodi Al-Fayed, driver fleeing paparazzi killed in Paris car crash 

2001 – Sally Finn and Peter Streker started Overdose Awareness Day * as a local Salvation Army program in Australia to acknowledge the grief of bereaved families and support prevention programs. In 2012, the Australian Penington Institute expanded the program and coordinated with efforts in other countries, so it became an International Day. Participants show their support by wearing silver – special IOAD silver badges help fund programs. http://www.penington.org.au/
