A Few Favourite Things

by IRENE FOWLER, Contributor

“Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things.”
 – Rodgers & Hammerstein, The Sound of Music

A Few Favourite Things

by Irene Fowler

Giddy kids on playground swings
Colourful balloons fastened to wiggly strings
Iridescent, magnetic, butterfly wings
Birds of paradise shape-shifting while dancing
A few of my favourite things.

**

Flitting goldfish amid pastel lilies in ponds
Fan-shaped royal palm tree fronds
Sunflower fields drenched in rainbow-sky showers
Cascading waterfalls and ornate bell-towers
A few of my favourite things.

**

Quaint sea shells and cultured black pearls
A waking cat; purr, stir, unfurl
Hues of purple, blue, pink and yellow
Boisterous chimps, jousting like goodfellows
A few of my favourite things.

**

The fresh, scented, emotive spring air
Champion ice figure-skating and tennis pairs
Floral ylang-ylang and jasmine, Channel no 5
Sweet, golden, honeycombs in wild beehives
A few of my favourite things.

**

Chocolate; food of the Aztec gods
Chic high-street fashion togs
Sunrises and sunsets
Hopeful beginnings and glorious resets
A few of my favourite things.
