Far-right Christian zealot Gordon Klingenschmitt, also known as “Dr. Chaps,” is a televangelist who was recently “swept into office” in Colorado with just under 70% of the vote. He will represent the state’s 15th House district. TPM reported that Klingenschmitt, a former Navy chaplain, “doesn’t understand why his election caused such a stir…” He thinks “it all must be because of a ‘backlash’ against Jesus.” The stir wasn’t a backlash against Jesus. It happened because the man is nuts and would give Louie Gohmert a run for his money in a “Who’s the Craziest Right-Wing Politician in the USA” competition.
After his election, Klingenschmitt spoke on Bible News Radio. He was quoted as saying, “Why would people hate a chaplain? I’m just a guy who believes the Bible. I love Jesus. I love people. I’m a man of faith and compassion.”
Why do some people have negative feelings about Klingenschmitt? Let’s see…where to start? How about with some of the anti-gay things that he’s said. He believes that gays have something “unhuman” and demonic inside them. He believes that gay soldiers wear diapers. He thinks they look at their adopted children with “lust.”
Right Wing Watch (RWW) has been keeping tabs on “Dr. Chaps.”
Right Wing Watch:
Klingenschmitt is a viciously anti-gay theocrat who believes that gay people “want your soul” and may sexually abuse their own children, which is why he says they should face government discrimination since only people who are going to heaven are entitled to equal treatment by the government…
Gays, he says, have something inhuman and demonic inside of them, which is why he declares that teaching kids about gay marriage is mental rape and advocates for Christians to print anti-gay Bible verses on the backs of gay wedding photos.
RWW News: Klingenschmitt Says Photo Of Gay Couple With A Baby “Looks To Me A Little Bit Like Lust”
Klingenschmitt has declared that the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy should never have been repealed since gay soldiers cannot serve effectively in combat because they are constantly “taking breaks on the combat field to change diapers all because their treacherous sin causes them to lose control of their bowels.” He also proclaims that those who are not welcome in the church should not be entitled to use public restrooms…

Mark Joseph Stern (Slate) said Klingenschmitt wrote a book—”which posits that President Barack Obama is possessed by ‘demonic spirits’ of ‘death,’ ‘paganism,’ and ‘homosexual lust…” He once conducted an “on-air exorcism of the president.”

I rest my case. I think Klingenschmitt is nuts! What do you think?

Elaine,
I don’t think “nuts” is in the DSM-5, but I’ll buy your diagnosis.
He is a malignancy on our culture and body politic.
“Every person in America has done or said something that would keep him or her from being president. Maybe a nation that consumes as much booze and dope as we do and has our kind of divorce statistics should pipe down about ‘character issues.'”
“… in our brief national history we have shot four of our presidents, worried five of them to death, impeached two and hounded another out of office. And when all else fails, we hold an election and assassinate their character.”
“If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it’s free”
— P.J. O’ROURKE —
And they elected him because….? Perhaps they need to ban pot smoking while in the voting booth.
This is as whacky as what some on the left do and say.
I dont agree with this man’s ideology but apparently there is some discussion about anal sex and pampers concerning females. Ladies stay away from taking it up the …..:
“What should you do and what can you do to remedy anorectal damage caused by anal sex?
Well, first consider switching to a less destructive form of sexual intercourse. If you still prefer it that way, at least find a partner with as small a penis as possible, though it isn‘t going to help much, because in this situation even a large finger will eventually cause damage;
Obviously, you can always have plastic surgery done to remove scar tissue and enlarged hemorrhoidal pads. But the surgery isn‘t going to solve the problem with constipation, because mending the anus with a lancet usually kills anorectal sensitivity altogether, so you no longer experience the urge to move your bowels naturally. Even worse, you may lose your ability to control your anal sphincters and end up wearing pampers for the rest of your life!
To learn how to make stools small, soft, and regular, and to enjoy reasonable health and quality of life regardless of your adventuresome sex life, start reading from here: No Downsize, Just Upside-down.
If you can‘t say ‘no‘ to your partner forcefully enough, just show him the video above and these illustrations: The final frontier between you and the toilet bowl.
If he still insists on having anal sex, measure up his implement, get a cucumber or carrot of a similar size and shape, put a condom on, and ask him to take it first. Maybe that will reduce his eagerness to cause you similar harm.”

” “it all must be because of a ‘backlash’ against Jesus.””
Clue: it is not Jesus I am worried about.
“Dr. Chaps”?
Is that an indication that he’s a leather-boy?
He hails from the Colorado Springs area which is a virtual mecca for right wing christian evangelicals.
um… bron, old buddy. you put waaay too much thought into that answer.
I do hope he’s assigned to the Impeachment Subcommittee
Isn’t Colorado Springs the location of our crazy Air Force Academy and by crazy I’m talking about reported sexual assaults. A report on sexual assaults involving United States Service Academies released in 2013 showed 15 at the U.S. Naval Academy, 10 at West Point, and 45 at the Air Force Academy.
The Air Force Academy had always been a hotbed of Christian fundamentalist dominance and fanatical religious bigotry and Colorado Springs is its home. Gordon Klingenschmitt is a graduate of the Academy.
This is just one of the public prayers he’s offered condemning the Pentagon for not supporting a fundamentalist Christian event:
“Let us pray. Almighty God, we pray you rebuke the cowardly bureaucrat in the Pentagon, (whose phone number is 703-695-9664), who decided for the first time in 42 years to deny a request for a military plane flyover at the “God and Country Rally” honoring our veterans in Idaho, because the event might “appear to benefit a religious or ideological movement.” Since when are God, Country, and Veterans groups too ideological? God we recall Revelation 21:8, the cowardly…their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. In Jesus name, Amen.”
The Revelations verse he references reads as follows:
But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.
Scary dude from a scary place.
Pete,
Must be that he has not made the acquaintance of Goatsie?
At least Hanson, of master, slave darkies fame, has resigned his Nevada speakership
pete:
Actually, I did. I thought it was curious that he made that diaper remark. I have never heard that in all my years on this earth and I was actually surprised when it turned out to be a possibility.
Gordon Klingenschmitt To Slay All The (Literal) Demons In The Colorado House

Yr Wonkette would just like to know: is there somewhere we can subscribe to a 24/7 video stream of the Colorado House of Representatives when it starts its next session? Because one of our favorite crazies, disgraced former Navy chaplain and nutso webcast preacher Gordon “Dr. Chaps” Klingenschmitt won election to the District 15 seat by a whopping 40-point margin over some sane Democrat lady. Mr. Klingenschmitt is a truly epic figure — he was court-martialed and kicked out of the Navy in 2011 for wearing his uniform at a White House protest, which gave him just the right “oppressed Christian” cred to become a national hero to wingnuts. At every opportunity, he explains that literal demons are at work in people he disagrees with, from The Gays to Barack Obama to public school teachers, and probably cable installers who don’t show up on time, because Satan and his Army of Darkness are everywhere.
New lawmaker has his demons

On Nov. 4, Democrat Lois Fornander lost her bid to represent Colorado House District 15 to Republican Gordon “Dr. Chaps” Klingenschmitt, a man listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as the head of an LGBT hate group, the Pray in Jesus Name Project.
Fornander didn’t just lose by a few hundred votes. She was defeated by nearly 10,000 votes, a 70 percent to 30 percent lopsided loss to Dr. Chaps.
According to SPLC’s blog Hatewatch, Klingenschmitt is “best-known for his claims of casting demons out of LGBT people.” Court-martialed by the Air Force in 2006 for disobeying an order and kicked out of the Navy for attending a political rally in front of the White House in March 2006 dressed in his Navy uniform (a violation of military regulations), Klingenschmitt “has claimed that gay people sexually abuse their own children and they should be discriminated against because they’re not going to heaven and only people who go to heaven are entitled to equal treatment.”
it is so hard to be a republican in these trying times.
I wouldnt want my son or daughter caught up with this guy.
Elaine as a trans woman I literally do not have the time or the energy to voice my opinion of this man. The Republicans are literally working a stranglehold of hate and exclusion on the LGBT community and free thought as a whole and seem to be standing on the throat of the “T” as they watch the life fade slowly from eyes of the rest of the progressive nation. Not that I would say the Democrats have done a whole Hel of a lot better. In the Midwest all frankly seems lost. I give up hope in early December after the Lame duck session.
Caitlyn,
Come…join us here in Massachusetts. Most of the Republicans in this state are reasonable folks…and not anti-gay/transgender. In fact, the Republican who ran for Congress from my district is openly gay.
http://www.politicususa.com/2014/11/24/democrats-demand.html “The Committee on House Administration’s Ranking Democratic Member Robert A. Brady sent a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner demanding clarification on the cost of the House Republican lawsuit against President Obama.
In a press release, Brady detailed his letter to Boehner,
“We certainly believe that the committee should have considered this contract in open session, which would have allowed us to debate the proposal in regular order,” states Brady in the letter addressed to Committee Chairman Candice Miller. “Since we had no opportunity to be heard before the committee approved the contract, we are posing the following questions…”
The letter proceeds to ask for clarification on the expenses and hourly rates, ambiguous subcontracting provisions, the use of uncompensated George Washington University law students and the potential for expanding this contract to include threatened lawsuits targeting the Administration’s recent Executive Action on immigration.
In his letter, Brady wrote that under the terms of Turley’s contract it is possible that the attorney will earn as much as three million taxpayer dollars for suing President Obama. The contract is vague, and Democrats want to know exactly how much the lawsuit is going to cost the taxpayers.”
Elaine, Massachusetts or Maine is the area that was second on my list. James has lured with me the Asgard like visions of the Pacific Northwest and my memories of Arcata, Ca.. I am a Norse girl at heart. But I have been to your area many times around Rockport and Boston and absolutely adore it.
