If you are ever visiting Vladimir, Russia, be careful where you park. They take illegal parking seriously.

Video below the fold was recorded last February 28.

Do you have an interesting tow truck experience?

—oooOooo–

This is a daily open thread. There are several hosts, each host being responsible for picking a “theme of the day” and starting the discussion. However, there is no hard and fast rule about staying on topic, especially if you have a personal story burning a hole in your pocket trying to escape.
Pictures and videos are welcome in the comments.  If photos are used, please be sure you own the copyright. We would rather see your personal photos anyway, rather than random stuff copied from the internet.  Our only request is that if you use pictures or videos, take pity on those who don’t have broadband, and don’t post more than two or three in a single comment.
Morning Open Thread will be set to post at (or about) 6:30 AM Eastern Daylight Time. For those on international or military times, that is 1030 Zulu Time.

I noticed the rear wheels were off of this vehicle. So, it may have been appropriate. This last year, I did extensive travel abroad and I will say for roads eastern Europe have the worst ever. Besides the roads the parking was atrocious. Spaces meant for parallel parking were about to fit 3 to 4 vehicles as they pulled straight in with the wheels on the curb.

Another thing, I became accustomed to and if younger, I probably would have done it myself, is if you don’t like the traffic on the road that you are on, the sidewalk is sufficiently wide enough to drive a vehicle upon.

Glad to see you are here Chuck.

What a new slant on ‘recycling’ !

  3. Mornin’ Russell. Yep, I noticed the missing wheels on the rear of that truck. Either stolen by tire thieves, or the truck abandoned. At any rate, I have not seen anything like that claw around here, and hope I don’t.

As for folks driving on sidewalks, a movement calling itself “Stop a Douchebag” has been intercepting people driving on sidewalks and slapping big paper signs onto their windshields, identifying the driver as a douchebag. The movement started with young people in Russia, but has spread to other countries as well. This video is their latest. In the description, they write:

“Rare drivers receive more than one sticker from us, and a driver must be a really remarkable one to get a second sticker on their car. We always try to ration our stickers and never give them away, but still sometimes we have to use them liberally to stop some people from dragging us on their hoods (that become dented after that).”

How about recycling you can dance to?

Our friend “Crashing Vor” over at Daily Kos is a New Orleans musician, composer and video maker. In a discussion with him the other day, the topic of rock crusher spam came up. As you may know, there have been mass spam attacks advertising rock crushers, so it has become a kind of inside joke for bloggers. I suggested that since rock crushers had a cool rhythm, CV might like to take a shot at using rock crushers as the rhythm part of a music video. This is what he came up with:

  5. Hello Chuck, I am getting here very late – we do need to rename this series “Daily Open Thread”
    Another along the theme:

I hope he also got a ticket for driving with obscured view; 😉

  6. Here is how the Brazilian pranksters punished the illegal parking parking guy with Post-It notes. This is not the only time they have pulled this stunt. I think I want the exclusive franchise for blue Post-It notes. This ought to catch on around the world.

I don’t understand why that cop didn’t ticket him, unless he was laughing too hard to write.

You should see what he does to people who try to pass on the right.
