The fogs that shroud the Congressional Review Act … GOPredation

By ann summers967911

Sam Bee had a segment on Full Frontal regarding the Congressional Review Act (CRA), another of those GOP annoyances from the Contract on America era, created to obstruct Democratic executive regulatory action. It functions more symbolically but its effect is to raise the level of the “swamp” that some politicians want to drain.

The real problem has always been about the efficiency of government because the Democratic party needs even more leadership and perhaps some stable cleaning necessary to win and reapportion voting districts.

CRA is symptomatic of rule-making not unlike the waging of war without declaring it. An anti-bureaucratic Democratic party will win in 2018 if they can get past the usual sox/rux recriminations for allowing the GOP to win in 2016. For example returning to “vague regulation” can only mean more environmental problems in an age that really cannot afford better regulatory risk differentiation.

The GOP implemented resolution to rescind this law (fully supported by the Trump administration) have provided many news outlets with headlines in the vein of “Trump makes it legal to dump coal mining waste into rivers and streams.” Although the initiative to block the Stream Protection Rule will undoubtedly increase the number of permits issued to dump excess spoil into streams, it is more of a return to a vaguely established condition than an instance of newly enacted legalization.

So much sausage making, yet this is what will proceed as the experiment in democracy tries to correct itself in the coming months, with vaguely established conditions imbued with a strategy of tension. Ultimately, legislation by obstruction and now defederalization will wreak even more havoc, house-demolition by fiat.

Republicans in Congress have dusted off the Congressional Review Act to vote or make plans to vote to overturn nearly half a dozen Obama-era federal regulations, including preventing coal companies from dumping their waste in nearby water and stopping the Social Security Administration from notifying the national gun background check systems of people deemed mentally incapable of managing their affairs…

To state the obvious: The president who approved these regulations probably isn’t going to sign a bill into law that undoes them. President Obama vetoed several repeals Congress sent to him.

Which means the Congressional Review Act is pretty much only helpful in the very short window of time when there’s a transition of power from one party to another — i.e., when Congress and the president are united in opposition to a rule that was implemented just 60 legislative days ago.

USS Porter Buzzed by Russian Planes in Black Sea

160412-N-ZZ999-008

I cross-posted this to Daily Kos earlier today. This is the first time the Russians have flown close aboard a US Navy ship since tRump has taken office. In this case, the flights included four aircraft. The first buzzing involved two Russian Su-24 jet fighters followed by a single Su-24 and, in a third incident, an IL-38 transport aircraft.

Ghosts of GOP scandals past … and the inevitable misdirections

By ann summers

trump-flynn-20161

The age of Alternative Facts is coming to an end with the verification that there have been illegal dealings at the highest level between representatives of the current administration and Russia, and potentially a violation of the Logan Act. For all the denial of Russian interference in the US government, it has come to the center of national security and apparently with the knowledge of both the President and the Vice President.

What remains is for some people to do their investigatory jobs, undeterred by what will be the same kinds of systematic obstruction that now have made the GOP Congress complicit in a tax record obstruction of the current WH occupant’s refusal to release tax records.

It will take so long to investigate what seems now more than implications of self-dealing criminal behavior not unlike Watergate that we will see the midterm pass with Lord Dampnut still building his brand of truthful hyperbole, filled with alternative facts.

Less than two hours before Michael Flynn’s resignation, the story broke that Sally Yates had warned Donald Trump’s White House near the end of January that Flynn was a likely risk to be blackmailed by Russia. Trump took no action against Flynn at the time. But just days later, Trump fired Yates, citing her disagreement with his position on the Muslim ban. That now creates the appearance that Trump fired Yates because he knew that she was onto Flynn’s collusion with Russia, and that he merely used the Muslim ban as an excuse to get rid of her before she could take Flynn down.

We will be hearing a whole lot in the next days regarding Donald Trump’s true motivation for firing Sally Yates. But here’s what’s fairly clear right now: Flynn spent four days refusing to resign, but almost immediately after the Yates news broke in the Washington Post, Flynn changed his mind and resigned. That suggests that Flynn viewed the Yates revelation as being so damning toward the Trump White House that he suddenly wanted to bail as quickly as possible.

The Watergate scandal began with the June 17, 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C., and the Nixon administration‘s attempted cover-up of its involvement. When the conspiracy was discovered and investigated by the United States Congress, the Nixon administration’s resistance to its probes led to a constitutional crisis.[6]

The scandal grew to involve a slew of additional allegations against the President, ranging from the improper use of government agencies to accepting gifts in office and his personal finances and taxes; Nixon repeatedly stated his willingness to pay any outstanding taxes due, and paid $465,000 in back taxes in 1974.[7]en.wikipedia.org/…

“What did Flynn tell Moscow while it was meddling in the US election to help Trump?”

Cruel is the snow that sweeps Glencoe…

glencoe_zps0830638d

Glencoe, Scotland

by Chuck Stanley

This is the story of a mass murder. A story of politics, of deceit, of a fearful leader, murder, honor by soldiers in the middle of a massacre, dishonor by their commanding officer, and of a cover-up. Sound familiar?

This is a crime that took place on this date 325 years ago.

Vive l’impeachment… Steve Bannon is Batman villain Lobster Thermidor

By ann summersstevebannon1

“Another perspective of Danton emerges from the work of Lamartine, who called Danton a man “devoid of honor, principles, and morality” who found only excitement and a chance for distinction during the French Revolution. He was merely “a statesman of materialism” who was bought anew every day. Any revolutionary moments were staged for the prospect of glory and more wealth.[27]”
C4FNcYFUEAAQkXN_1_.jpg
For historians of revolutionary movements, the term Thermidor has come to mean the phase in some revolutions when power slips from the hands of the original revolutionary leadership and a radical regime is replaced by a more conservative regime, sometimes to the point where the political pendulum may swing back towards something resembling a pre-revolutionary state. Leon Trotsky, in his book The Revolution Betrayed, alleges the rise of Joseph Stalin to power was a Soviet Thermidor.

Are we not entertained yet.

Cannot the Impeachment now begin, at least before senseless slaughters start. Because there is at least one cult that believes in a St. Godwin

Donald Trump is “highly likely” to face impeachment within 18 months of taking office, an expert in American politics has warned.

Let us give Lord Dampnut his fulfillment of GOP promises, delegitimizing democratic voting processes while supporting GOP racist immigration policies.

White-privileged profiling has now become normalized on the basis of lookism manifest in daily interactions; everyone has become their own ICE agent and those LEOs deputized, except in areas like the now othered sanctuary cities.

POC here for multiple if not fourth generations can only be “foreigners” because isn’t the US a majoritarian white judeo-christian society despite all those “Others” getting what … representation.

Cannot we now end Bannon’s Master Narrative of ethno-economic nationalism (American Lebensraum) before many die.

Donald Trump is in over his head. This comes as no surprise to the millions of people who could see that he was unprepared and unfit for the job of president of the United States and voted against him. He’s basically a celebrity heir to a fortune who was so entitled that he believed his privileged existence proved he was competent to run the most powerful nation on Earth. That’s the attitude of an aristocrat who ascended to the throne without having any idea what it actually takes to rule. History’s full of such men. It doesn’t often work out well

Those voters did not see what millions of others felt instinctively and that explains the shocked reaction and immediate resistance to his election: Trump’s incessant bragging, his lack of empathy or remorse, his pathological lying and even his bizarre appearance have been signs of an unstable personality. It was obvious to many of us that something was not right.

Erstwhile Falangist Steve Bannon is a schismatic RW functionary connected to capital and media. Through Lord Dampnut, he has fulfilled his schematic claim of being a “Leninist”, implying more correctly his Thermadorian manifestation in the current regime. Even Politico is now estimating the Impeachment odds…

There’s already talk of impeachment, just three weeks into Donald Trump’s turbulent presidency. In fact, many are already betting on it.

Gambling houses all over the world are taking in action on whether Trump, inaugurated just last month, will resign or be impeached. And the odds aren’t as long as you might think

Perhaps the most unusual — and certainly most lurid — wager is the 4-to-1 odds offered by Paddy Power that the alleged Russian video of Trump outlined in the dossier compiled by a former British intelligence agent will appear on a pornographic website.
