More interesting is how recent this blownwhistle may have occurred … within the last month, but more importantly it signals how much information was known in 2016 and how much information is available at the NSA.
It explains more about why Comey and Rogers are grouped together in terms of scheduling their testimonies.
NSA’s Rogers will have much to make available to Congress as well as to other investigations, but what’s unclear is how this classified information fits into the WH tactical scrambling, assuming that the cover-up continues.
The speculation about attempts to hack the US election becomes verified, yet again, even if it’s uncertain whether there were successful direct effects on it.
We’ve seen various windbags claim micro-targeting victories by some parallel efforts using data that might(sic) share similar provenance.
One implication is that elements in #TrumpRussia’s US cabal knew that the NSA or some IC asset had this information before the 2016 election, Yet they plodded forward with perhaps only indirectly coordinated activities that undermined opponents and/or the electoral process itself.
Because the cabal had no real control (or complete knowledge) over multiple actors on both sides, they seem to have simply hoped that democracy would get in its own way and not discover that there were multiple groups of actors whose only shared goal was to destabilize the US election and/or win the election for the GOP.
Because the effort was built on existing financial networks built over decades of shady operations, they felt they might just get away with it, except that on 8 November 2016, the worst happened when the GOP candidate unexpectedly won and the canopy disappeared.
The continuing investigations as well as the state-level prosecutions will have the usual lawfare over evidence and the subsequent firewalling of secret data. What remains difficult is getting to the circumstances motivating those who preferred to stay in the background and continue to get paid without scrutiny.
The structure of maximizing the votes for an electoral win are not the same as selling products (in interviews Kushner used marketing jargon in describing the Cambridge Analytica technologies).
Financing the data laundering of voter demographics and registration where personal information is not firewalled from the use of dodgy financial networks on the same server hardware that supported a loose form of mass identity theft. That mined data was then applied to regional push polling and media targeting, with perhaps even electoral interference.
Money was moved to support those tactical actions so that might be one of the current avenues for investigation — in possible places, groups, or individuals where there was common command and control of both financial payments and voter data plus campaign intelligence, however acquired.
This is where it potentially veers off to all those CT fantasies when the actual situation may simply be understanding how maximizing profit and centralizing power simply shares structural resemblances, albeit collusive ones. Maybe it all got over-delegated, like pressing the button and expecting the Diet Coke to appear.
The Russians pooped in the hallway; but it’s our house and we sent a Roomba to clean it up … you do the math.
And then there’s the potential intersection of data laundering and money laundering, where some of the float might have facilitated payment for services rendered. The money trail will attract the attention of other agencies. By the end, it’s so much more than Watergate or Iran-Contra.
The NSA analysis does not draw conclusions about whether the interference had any effect on the election’s outcome and concedes that much remains unknown about the extent of the hackers’ accomplishments. However, the report raises the possibility that Russian hacking may have breached at least some elements of the voting system, with disconcertingly uncertain results.
It’s not too early to cast the heroes of #TrumpRussia media projects … will they be leakers, lawyers, or ‘journalists’.
An epilogue provides a synopsis of the subsequent turns of events. Instead of the expected positive outcome, the prosecutor is mysteriously removed from the case, several key witnesses die under suspicious circumstances, the assassins receive (relatively) short sentences, the officers receive only administrative reprimands, the Deputy’s close associates die or are deported, and the photojournalist is sent to prison for disclosing official documents. The heads of the government resign after public disapproval, but before elections are carried out, a Coup d’etat occurs and the military seize all the power. They ban modern art and popular art in its many features, such as popular music and avant-garde novelists, as well as modern mathematics, classic and modern philosophers, and the use of the term “Z” (Greek: zíta, which was used by protesters against the former government), which referred to The Deputy and means: “He lives”.
Neither Masha Gessen nor Gary Kasparov are yet the ‘good Russian’ of the Kremlingate morality tale, but the #TrumpRussia story is presently a good one that should reach the screen with greater clarity than any of the Iraq war films. And no, it should not have the Beltway gossip-boys Halperin and Heilemann anywhere near it.
It will claim to be fictional to avoid the inevitable Trump comparisons (much like the new Brad Pitt film War Machine ostensibly being about Stanley A. McChrystal ).
It will not be the Citizen Kane William Randolph Hearst biopic, but should be even more absurd than Wall Street or Wolf of Wall Street, even if Oliver Stone or Martin Scorsese should be the directors.
Part of its core plot should be the production story of Steve Bannon’s hagiography of Sarah Palin, interwoven with the history of Roy Cohn, Playboy magazine, Studio 54 arc, including drugs and pedophilia. It wouldn’t be a Cannes-eligible flick unless it included a Berlusconi Bunga Bunga reference juxtaposed with the singing of the Internationale by Putin. Some extra will wind up having Trump’s face inked on their back. Think of the scene with Herbert Marcuse in Hail, Caesar except with Alexandr Dugin. And maybe a gunfight between Keith Schiller and Hank Siemers.
It should bring down neoliberal capitalism in the US, but it won’t, even as it will take years in production wrangling only to fail or be co-opted or superseded by the usual Hollywood production politics. If I could get the funding, it would be produced in a MMORPG format to capture the VR goggle market, think of Trump trying to do another real estate scam, except in Second Life using Bitcoin.

Justice is itself the great standing policy of civil society; and any eminent departure from it, under any circumstances, lies under the suspicion of being no policy at all.
The voiceless Jarvanka may yet come before Congress if not a NY state court.
Peter Schweizer of the Mercers’ Government Accountability Institute now has thrown Kushner under the Russian bus signaling further WH chaos and perhaps a start to a separation from the dark money election entrepreneurs. The differences between some Russians’ account of contacts with Kushner also has been interesting compared to those of the White House.
For central figures like Kushner, it was never about understanding who provided the hacked/phished data, just that it served the GOP’s political purposes such as modifying the GOP RNC platform.
Other activities operated with the help of Russian contacts in the background, aided by Americans who didn’t care about patriotism as much as seeing the profit and power on the horizon.
Kushner, like most debt-centered capitalists, keeping the billion dollar float going is an exciting risk. It is always about exploiting more than one’s own wealth without the same accountability as the national treasury they’re now looting, once they gained the levers of power.
Kompromat is after all the codependent relation of how protection rackets work as the NYS RICO investigation will show. It’s just worse when criminal enterprises suddenly gain national political power.
#TrumpRussia may have worked too well since they would have profited from the expected 2016 HRC victory. Lacking the attention of #TrumpRussia more quiet profit-making would continue. Trump would then move on to another media project, acquire wife #4, and play more golf. As the money receded, it then would move to Sinclair Broadcasting’s penetration of US local media markets, perhaps with a Breitbart channel on the model of The Blaze.
The problem is that #TrumpRussia worked much too well. Trump actually won in 2016 because of a confluence of events, including DNC incompetence countering Trump in swing-states and key districts, the incomplete revelation in October of the Comey investigation favoring the GOP by affecting HRC, and Comey’s omitting the still covert FISA investigation.
The more recent firing of Comey just affirmed the unintended consequences of his CYA move in October and doubled down on the current optics of guilt and obstruction.
#TrumpRussia was always business as usual, just with more steps borrowed from other influence-manipulation operations run by other kleptocrats like the Mercers / Kochs.
Their overlaps with Russians were facilitated by intermediaries like Cambridge Analytica as well as a variety of what are now dodgy, yet normalized real estate deals.
For many players and their big-data quants, the Russian-ness of the connections was (un) intentionally recognized as data and money got transshipped and transferred. These are the real “unmaskings” necessary for an ethical(sic) capitalism to survive.
